As I march towards my fifth decade I find some days my body does not feel like the one I’ve been living in for the past 49 years.  I have been on a journey to learn through reading  and listening to as much as I can on what is actually happening as we age.  My interest is how I can keep my ‘foot on the gas’ so I can ‘play’ all the things I have worked so hard to stay fit for.    While I don’t have it all figured out yet, I do  know that the one consistent finding that I’ve had for an ageing body is that you need strength.  Over the last six months I’ve gone back in time to when I was a varsity athlete and started lifting low rep (3-5) and heavy weights 2 to 3 times a week.
Hormonally this type of training seems to help with some of the ‘hormone’ related symptoms like sleep, hot flashes, anxiety that are common to our ‘demographic’.
