Are you the fittest Athlete in Collingwood?

Which Sport will have the fittest athletes?

The Collingwood Optimist ClubThe Collingwood Blues Jr A team and Active Life Conditioning are working together to celebrate and give back to local minor sports organizations.

On June 3/4 Active Life Conditioning is hosting a fitness combine at 8 Stewart Road to crown Collingwood’s Fittest Athletes.   A fitness combine is an event that brings together athletes from different sports to showcase their physical abilities. Active Life Conditioning has been training athletes for over 20 years.  High Performance Conditioning coach Rob Buxton chose the 4 tests for the combine (Vertical JumpSingle Leg Pente JumpPro Agility, 1 minute Assault Bike for total distance). The greatest overall score will be decalared the winner.  Rob states that “these tests were chosen to assess all the basic skills needed to compete in any sport.  They are not all specific to any one sport so it creates a level playing field to crown our fittest athletes in the area.”

This event will be a not-for-profit event as all registration fees($10/athlete) will be donated back to the sport organization that the participating athletes come from.  It will also be an opportunity for our local sports communities to come together and promote their organization and to help create some energy around local sport and help encourage kids back into sport after covid. All participants will get an athletic style t-shirt.

Organizer Sarah Applegarth states that we are “Trying to create a festival type atmosphere for our local sport organizations to showcase their product and get kids back joining after so many of them were shut down during covid.  We have noticed a decrease in the number of young kids being involved and active following the lockdowns.  We also acknowledge that there are many families left struggling within our community and we want to help find ways to remove barriers for youth to get active.  We all know the positive impact that sport participation and being a part of a team can have on the mental and physical health of a young person.  We need to keep finding ways in our community to work together to provide opportunities for this to happen.”

Deadline to register is Thursday June 1st.    We will be testing waves of 5-10 athletes every 15 minutes throughout the age group time slots.  After you register for your age group, you will receive an email to give you your specific time to arrive. There will be an awards ceremony following each age group testing session.  We have some great awards for top overall scores thanks to our other local sponsors: Jump Start Canadian Tire and Natural Blends Landscaping
