Pilates

We offer group mat Pilates for every age and fitness level. We also offer private mat and reformer Pilates sessions.

Pilates works to improve flexibility, improve balance and posture, as well as tone and strengthen the entire body. The focus is on the core: waist, hips, butt, thighs, back and stomach.

At Active Life we believe strongly the current research into spinal health.  We emphasize the importance of neuromuscular integrity in both the local and global systems so support for the entire body is enhanced. The five core systems and a series of baseline exercises to ensure synergy amongst the systems are emphasized at every stage of the teacher training program. The objective is for teachers to know how to build stability for the lumbar spine with optimal range of motion in the pelvis/hips and thoracic spine.

We have modified and altered the original Pilates repertoire to meet the needs of certain conditions like osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and Multiple Sclerosis. And, since the everyday exerciser in the Pilates environment tends to be deconditioned, sedentary and a likely candidate for back pain, our programming goal is to always make Pilates accessible and safe.
